Pure Cinema Loses Out; Practicality Pumps Fist

In my last article, I debated the screen size and aspect ratio.  As it usually does, time and thought helped resolve my dilemma.  I have landed on the side of functionality and chosen the more popular 16:9 HDTV aspect ratio and the smaller 106" diagonal screen.

I've added some furnishings to help illustrate how the screen will be framed in the space. They are simple placeholders, and don't portray the ultimate design, but still, they give you a sense of the direction I'm headed.

Woodwork on the sides

Columns!  No?  We'll see...
In the end, having native support for 100% of television, 100% of video games, and 60% of movies beat the wow factor of the 2.40 cinescope aspect.  I also like how the narrower screen affords room to put in colums, shelves, or lighting.

  1. You say 60% of movies, yet all movies will play just fine. In the dark, you won't notice the unused portions of the screen!

    Pumped the fist indeed!

Oh, and don't put in the columns/pillars. All bookcase/wood paneling all the way around!

  2. I've moved past the columns already. Our space just isn't tall enough. I'm glad you agree!
